Sylvan Nook Soap Pantry Up and Running! Mon, Jul 11 2011
Thursday, July 7th was the first date the pantry was open and all went smoothly thanks to the wonderful folks at
Sylvan Nook Church of Christ. The new soap pantry has personal hygiene items, cleaning products, some paper
products, and some baby items. Hoping to add diapers and other items soon. For now, a referral from Wayne
Township Trustee's office is required (due to funding issues), but over time, as private donations increase, more
people will be served. Currently the pantry is open the first Thursday each month and all Charity Tracker agencies
can refer clients to Wayne Township Trustee for eligibility screen and referral to pantry. Clients walk into the pantry
with a shopping basket and select their items, which takes a little more time but each person can get what they
really need. It's a wonderful new resource! Thanks to Mike Ballard and his wonderful church members for all their
hard work in making this happen!

One of the main services we provide is assistance to low-income households who, despite their personal efforts, are
not able to provide for their basic needs. (Such as rent or mortgage payment, utilities, food, personal items, or
medicine). We provide direct assistance as well as many referrals to other agencies' programs to which the
applicant household may be eligible.
Indiana township trustees are required to render decisions on the township assistance within 72 hours (3 business
days), so we work hard to gather all needed information quickly.
If you need assistance or information, please explore the website and call or visit the office. To apply for assistance,
plan to arrive early. We take application from 8:00 am to 11:00 am, but operate on a first-come first-served basis
so to be sure to be seen the same day, arrive as early as possible. If your work schedule does not allow you to
come in during regular hours, call and talk to the trustee to set up a special appointment.
