The Trustee is here to help the residents of the Township in times of crisis. The Trustee does not provide any long-term support or relief, but if you have a sudden, unavoidable problem, we may be able to help.

Township Assistance
In addition to other duties, the Wayne Township Trustee is responsible for the administration of emergency relief to eligible Wayne Township residents whose personal efforts have not enabled them to meet their basic needs on their own.

The Wayne Township Trustee's office accepts applications for assistance at the following times:

                                                    Thursday - By appointment only
                                                     Friday -  8:00 AM - 11:00 AM
                                                             Emergency applications:

                                                                  1:00 PM - 3:00 PM  

Individuals desiring to make an application for assistance should come to the office between 8:00 am and 11:00 am. It is recommended applicants arrive as early as possible, since the applications are processed as received. If the number of applicants received on a given day exceeds the amount of time to process all applications, and the assistance is not an emergency, late arriving applicants will be asked to return the following morning. Emergency applications only, will sometimes be taken from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. All follow up appointments are at this time as well.

What to bring to appointment

  • Picture ID for all who are 18 and older in household.
  • Social Security card for everyone in household.
  • Verification of income for everyone in household for past 30 days.
  • Expenses for past 30 days - receipts for money spent
  • All current utility bills
  • Last paid rent receipt.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I apply Township assistance?
A:
 The office is located at 401 East Main Street. It is on the lower level of the Wayne County Administration building. Applications are taken from 8:00 Am to 11:00 AM . An individual will be given an application and list of other documents or information needed to complete application. Applicant will then see the Trustee and or an Investigator for an interview to compile all information. An application is not considered complete until all adult members of household have signed application an Disclosure and Release of Information form. The Trustee will  then, after reviewing and verifying all information, determine if you are eligible for assistance.

Q: Who is eligible for Township assistance?
A: 
To be eligible for Township Assistance you must:
  • Live in Wayne Township
  • Meet income guidelines
  • Be in need of essentials of life.
  • Be willing to help yourself as much as possible.
Eligibility is determined by the Trustee  after application is completed and is based on standards adopted by the township.

Q: What should I bring when I come in to apply?
A:

Q: What kind of assistance can the Trustee provide?
A: 
Specifically the Trustee can help with the following basic needs:
  • Food - For those not receiving food stamps.
  • Shelter - current month
  • Utilities - current month
  • Medical - not otherwise provided by insurance, clinics etc.
  • Indigent burial

Q: What is expected of me as an applicant?
A: 
There are 3 major requirements to be met before a determination of eligibility can be made.
  1. Work requirement
By law, the Trustee must require any able bodied applicant between the ages of 18 and 65  who is not already employed seek and accept employment. If you are granted assistance by the Township and are not employed full time, you will be assigned workfare. This is a program in which you are assigned work for the Township to work off assistance given. This work assignment must be completed to receive futureassistance.
2. Other self help requirements
Applicants are required to apply for other forms of aid if it might help household meet basic needs.   Examples are, TANF, Food Stamps, Social Security, etc.
3. Cooperation  
Applicants must cooperate with Trustee's office in providing necessary information,documents and signatures. Failure to cooperate will result in denial of assistance.

Q: How does the Trustee provide aid?
A: 
The Trustee issues vouchers, never cash to pay for provided goods and services.
